International seminar for tackling illegal logging, 2007 II in Yokohama
"A credible and distributable system
for verifying Goho(=legal) wood and wood products”

Japan Federation of Wood Industry Associations(JFWIA)will sponsor above titled seminar on December 3 & 4, 2007, in Yokohama.
To tackle world wide illegal logging issue, the government of Japan has, since February 2006, introduced "The guideline for verification on legality and sustainability of wood and wood products" for its procurement policy and some housing and construction companies in Japan are interested in the guideline for their procurement activities.
The purposes of the seminar are 1) to request to the exporting countries and exporting bodies of wood and wood products to tackle the illegal logging issue though introducing the verification methods in accordance with the Japanese guideline, and 2) to promote further use and further opportunities in the marketplace of wood and wood products that have proven legality and sustainability.
